Celebrating 45 Years of Rowing at Lauriston

The Old Lauristonians’ Association took extreme pleasure connecting with Lauriston rowers from the past 45 years at a wonderful event hosted by the Lauriston Rowing Association! Lauriston Rowing starting in 1975 when “five students sat in a boat and made it move…..slowly!”.

We welcomed past rowers from a variety of years, including Lauriston’s Olympic rower and former Director of Rowing Sue Chapman-Popa (1980); Olympic Rower and former Coach Nick Green OAM; former coaches Barb Gillett and Peter Wollard. We were also delighted to honour Michael Nicholson who starting the Rowing Program at Lauriston in 1975.

Whilst we had a number of “old” crews come to this fantastic celebration, it’s important to acknowledge Macey Longhurst nee Caple (1991) who travelled from Queensland to attend with her original crew mates.

Special gratitude to the Chadwick family for allowing this event to be held within the grounds of their beautiful home. A site where a boat could be displayed, crossed oars, and an abundance of room for our past rowers to gather, reconnect and reminisce about their adventures on the water.
